If you really want the inverter for some reason, it's been $100 with the two 4ah batteries during Ryobi days, and probably will be again. ![]() So for $65 you will have a much bigger power bank for cheaper. ![]() If you are complaining about the batteries, you can do a hack deal and get two 4ah batteries for about $50. You can buy a stand alone Ryobi battery to USB adapter for $15. They added it because they all received feedback from owners it would make it more versatile. These used to only have receptacles on them, no USB. Thinking of this as a power bank is missing the point of the tool. If you can't find a use for it, then pass. Slick Deals loves Ryobi because every tool uses the same battery style, so there is no concern you have to buy an old 'new' battery years from now to use your tools, or throw them away and buy a new system. You most likely are not starting out buying this unless you have a specific use case you need an inverter for. Doing that alone saves me enough $ in electricity a year to cover the cost of an inverter with battery bundle.Įvery tool line makes an inverter, so most people just buy the brand they are in and use existing batteries. I don't need the internet up 100% of the time, but I do want everyone to continue using it during a power outage to avoid using my phone's hotspot and battery. I personally leave one next to my Modem and Router to replace a UPS and save some $ avoiding the constant power draw a UPS needs. That includes, but is not limited to Fans, Lamps, low power tools, TV's/Monitors, Laptops, Network equipment, electric kitchen appliances (ex can opener). The point is options.People still have stuff that needs a receptacle to power. (Or even plugged into a larger battery bank with AC or a generator or something. An EGO version of this adapter would be super useful considering some of those batteries are over $400+ usd and sometimes you just need to use it for a moment. Id like to compare the hackaday and DIY builds for these vs what Ryobi themselves put underneath. Given that one or more tools are hybrids, the proper dropdown components are hiding behind that slider. If all the tools were like this it would be awesome. The older green Ryobi one+ trimmer/weedwacker is hybrid - has a sliding cover where the battery plugs in for AC cord like a wired hedge trimmer or the battery. And then think about whether people would actually buy them as they might not be as cheap as people would hope. They will need to balance between a reasonably sized adapter that might only power a small range of tools, or an absolute mammoth that can power everything. ![]() So yeah, I doubt it would be practical for ryobi to manufacture an AC adaptor for direct usage on tools. It can pump out massive current, though obviously how long it can do so depends on the capacity, and if you've tried out cheap aftermarket batteries before, you'd find that they struggle powering stuff like your grinders and vacuums because they really can't handle the power draw like genuine batteries. An angle grinder might pump out even more. This means that the device would be drawing 16A. If memory serves, the rated runtime of some of their 18v vacuum cleaners is 15 minutes on a 4 amp hour battery. Your vacuum cleaner draws considerably more power. Based on commercial availability from Chinese manufacturers, I'd hazard a guess that they'd be mass ordering standard 2A plugs for a cheap price. Because if you look into those hybrid devices, the part where you plug in the AC is actually just one of those switching power supply plug packs.
